Miami Ties No. 5 SCSU for Second Straight Night

ST. CLOUD, Minn. — John Waldron scored a dramatic extra-attacker goal with 35 seconds left in regulation and the Miami University hockey team rallied for a 1-1 tie at No. 5/5 St. Cloud State Saturday night. Ludvig Persson made 30 stops in net for the RedHawks (7-17-4, 2-13-3). After a scoreless overtime, the Huskies (18-8-2, 10-6-2) prevailed in the shootout to earn an extra point in the conference standings.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • 9:27 1st (SCSU 1-0) | St. Cloud State started the scoring on a power play midway through the opening period. After a shot by Mason Salquist and a battle for the ensuing rebound, Spencer Meier won the puck and knocked it forward to Jami Krannila for the close-range finish.
  • 19:25 3rd (Miami 1-1) | With the Miami net empty, the RedHawks broke through to even the score at 1-1 in the final minute. Max Dukovac fired a shot that Matthew Barbolini was able to keep alive in front. Barbolini got enough of the puck to slide a pass across the crease to Waldron, who beat Dominic Basse to tie the game.

NOTES
  • Persson moved into fifth place on the program's all-time list for career saves with 2,253 (passing Steve McKichan's 2,244).
  • Waldron's goal was his ninth of the year, matching Barbolini for the team lead.
  • Barbolini produced his team-high 21st point (9-12-21).
  • Dukovac picked up an assist for the second consecutive night and has a point in four of his last five appearances.
  • Artur Turansky was credited with a career-high three shots on goal.
