RedHawks Drop Doubleheader at North Alabama

FLORENCE, Ala.--Â The Miami University baseball team dropped a pair of games to the University of North Alabama by the scores of 14-9 and 10-9 Sunday. The RedHawks fall to 0-7 on the season while the Lions improve to 4-3.
Game one was an offensive contest between the RedHawks and the Lions, with UNA scoring five times in the third inning and five in the fourth to come out on top.Â
In game two, the RedHawks took a 4-0 lead after five innings before the Lions rallied in the sixth and seventh to take the lead for good. Miami answered back with five runs in the eighth but the visitors' comeback attempt came up one run short.
ÂHOW IT HAPPENED: Game One

The top of the first started off with a leadoff walk to Evan Appelwick. After advancing to second by a ground out, Appelwick scored off a double from Ryland Zaborowski. Zach MacDonald joined in by hitting a double to score Zaborowski. Parker Lester followed up with a single to put runners on the corners. Brian Zapp then singled to score MacDonald and make it 3-0 RedHawks.

Zapp led off the fourth inning with a single. Cooper Weiss and Tommy Harrison followed up by reaching base with back-to-back walks. With the bases loaded and no outs, Dillon Baker flew out to score Zapp. Appelwick followed up with another fly out to score Weiss and make it 7-5 Lions.

In the top of the fifth, Zaborowski reached base after being hit by a pitch. MacDonald followed up with a quick single. Zapp reached base after being the second batter hit by a pitch in the inning. Harrison walked to push Zaborowski across home plate to make it 12-6 Lions.

Appelwick led off the sixth inning with a walk. Zaborowski followed that with a double. Appelwick scored courtesy of an error, making it 12-7 Lions.

Weiss reached base after being hit by a pitch to begin the seventh inning. With one out in the inning, Nate Stone reached base via walk. With runners on second and third, Benji Brokemond hit a single to score Weiss. Stone scored on a wild pitch for the RedHawks' to make the final score 14-9 Lions.

HOW IT HAPPENED: Game Two

Miami kicked off the first inning with a leadoff walk to Appelwick. Brokemond followed up with a double to advance Appelwick to third. With one out, MacDonald flew out to right field to help the RedHawks strike first. Appelwick scored on the fly, making it 1-0 RedHawks.

Weiss kept the momentum going in the second inning by hitting a leadoff double. With Dillon Novak and Cristian Tejada both reaching base on a fielder's choice, they both scored from a single by Brokemond, making it 3-0 RedHawks.

With one out in the top of the fifth, Lester reached base with a single. With one out in the inning, Stephen Krause was gifted first base after being hit by a pitch. Weiss followed by reaching base via walk. With the bases loaded, Lester scored on a wild pitch to make it 4-0 RedHawks.

Tejada led off the eighth inning with a walk. Harrison followed up with a single. Appelwick reached base via walk to load the bases. Lester earned an RBI with a line out to left field to score Tejada. MacDonald, Zapp and Weiss had back-to-back-to-back walks to plate two runs. With the bases loaded, Baker singled to score Zapp and MacDonald to pull Miami within 10-9.

Connor Oliver completed his outing with 5.1 innings pitched, allowing two hits and one earned run while racking up 11 strikeouts.

Lester went 2-for-4 with one RBI.
