RedHawks Pick up Road Victory Over Buffalo, 72-67

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Miami University women's basketball team finished Saturday's contest on a 7-0 run to capture a 72-67 road victory over Buffalo. The win snaps a 14-game losing streak versus the Bulls and helps keep Miami (10-17, 5-9) in contention for a trip to Cleveland for the Mid-American Conference Tournament. Buffalo drops to 9-14 overall and 4-10 in conference play.

Maddi Cluse led the way with 20 points, 12 rebounds and four assists and Sierra Morrow was clutch down the stretch, connecting on a pair of three points en route to scoring 11 points and adding a career-high five assists. Peyton Scott added 16 points and five boards.

How it Happened:
  • Things couldn't have started much better for the RedHawks. Cluse scored five quick points and the RedHawks led 11-2 early in the contest. Buffalo responded with a 14-7 run to close the quarter as Miami led 18-16.
  • Buffalo's run continued into the second, stretching its lead to 23-18 before Cluse recorded a layup and Katey Richason drilled a triple from atop the key to knot the score at 23 apiece. UB closed the quarter on a 10-4 run to head to the locker room with a 33-27 advantage.
  • A layup from Amani Freeman and five straight from Scott to begin the third spotted Miami a 34-33 lead. UB responded with a run of their own (11-3) to take their largest lead of the game, 44-36 with 4:21 to play in the third. With Scott on the bench with foul trouble, Miami closed to within 47-46 with the help of triples from Wolf and Cluse. Buffalo led 52-46 heading to the fourth.
  • A pair of UB free throws pushed UB's advantage to 57-50, but a three-pointer from Wolf and a layup from Richason cut the deficit to just two, 57-55. Morrow found an open Freeman for an easy layup  and Morrow then connected on a three-pointer to tie the game at 64-64 with 3:15 remaining. Just 90 seconds later, Scott made 1-of-2 from the foul line to give Miami a 65-64 lead, its first advantage since 34-33. UB responded with a non-traditional three-point play to claim a two-point advantage and Cluse tied it at 67-67 with a pair of free throws with 1:03 to go. A great defensive effort from Richason forced a turnover on the ensuing possession and with 24 seconds to play Scott found Morrow for a clutch triple. Miami converted its free throws down the stretch to secure the victory.
