RedHawks Complete Sweep of NIU, 88-67

OXFORD, Ohio – Miami's Peyton Scott (26), Ivy Wolf (22) and Maddi Cluse (18) combined to score 66 points in an 88-67 victory over Northern Illinois on Wednesday. The RedHawks (11-17, 6-9 MAC) shot a season-high 60.3% from the field and out-rebounded the Huskies (14-12, 6-9 MAC) 33-26 en route to a season-high point total.

How it Happened:
  • Scott had seven points at the first media timeout, capped by a three-point play, as the RedHawks led 14-7 midway through the first quarter. Scott finished with 11 points and Wolf added eight in the opening 10 minutes to spot the Red and White a 26-15 lead.
  • Miami's offense continued to click on all cylinders into the second quarter. A Cluse triple atop the key gave Miami its largest lead of the half, 36-19 with 6:40 left. NIU responded with a 15-4 run over the next five minutes to get within six, 40-34. Sierra Morrow drilled a triple as the shot clock expired and Scott added a pair of free throws late in the quarter to send Miami to the locker room up 45-36.
  • NIU cut the deficit to 49-43 early in the third, but back-to-back layups from Cluse and Katey Richason pushed Miami's advantage back to double digits. The Huskies got as close as 62-57, but a Scott fade-away from the baseline at the horn sent Miami to the fourth with a 64-57 lead.
  • Wolf drew a charge on NIU's Chelby Coker (her fourth) and moments later the sophomore converted two free throws to give Miami a 70-59 lead with 6:10 to play. After Ball State made a free throw, Morrow and Scott recorded back-to-back layups to lead 74-62 midway through the final stanza. Coming out of the media timeout, Richason found Wolf for her fourth triple of the game and then Wolf fed Morrow for a layup to give Miami a 79-62 advantage. Amani Freeman converted a three-point play less than a minute later to push Miami's advantage to 20 points.

Game Notes:
  • Miami shot 60.3% for the game, a new season best. The RedHawks' previous high was 54.0% in a win over Bradley.
