CHARLOTTE, N.C.– On Saturday the Miami University softball team downed East Tennessee State University 3-2 and Campbell University 10-2.
Taylor Turner went the distance for Miami in the first game, and
Brianna Pratt the second. Pratt had six strikeouts.
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 1):
- The RedHawks got it started early in the bottom of the first when Karli Spaid scored on an RBI double from Allie Cummins, taking the lead 1-0.
- The Bucs answered in the top of the second, scoring two on an error, gaining a 2-1 lead.
- Both teams struggled to add runs to the board until Kate Kobayashi hit a double in the bottom of the seventh, allowing Chloe Parks to score, tying the game 2-2.
- Cummins then scored on an RBI walk-off single from Riley Coyne, giving the RedHawks the 3-2 win.
NOTES:
- Turner had the win for the RedHawks in the circle, allowing only one earned run.
- Maggie Murphy, Cummins, and Kobayashi each hit a double.
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 2):
- In the top of the first Karli Spaid put the first run on the board for the RedHawks, scoring on an error, giving Miami a 1-0 lead.
- Adriana Barlow doubled the RedHawks lead, 2-0, with a homerun in the top of the second.
- The Fighting Camels evened the score, 2-2, in the bottom of the third with three singles.
- The RedHawks doubled their runs again, 4-2, in the top of the fourth with a homerun from Spaid, where Barlow also scored.
- Cummins followed Spaid's homerun to make it 5-2.
- Shelby Kunkel scored on an RBI double from Holly Blaska in the top of the fifth, increasing the RedHawks' lead to 6-2.
- Blaska then scored on an RBI single from Reagan Bartholomew, taking the 7-2 lead.
- In the top of the sixth Kobayashi scored on an RBI walk from Coyne. Maddi Banks and Kunkel then scored on an error, to run-rule the Fighting Camels 10-2.
NOTES:
- Spaid, Cummins, Blaska, Barlow, and Bartholomew each earned RBIs.
- Pratt did not allow a single extra base hit.
