DAYTON, Ohio — The Miami University men's basketball team dropped a 92-82 decision at Wright State Tuesday night in non-conference action.
Bryce Bultman and
Bradley Dean each scored 12 points to lead the RedHawks (4-6, 0-0 MAC), while
Anderson Mirambeaux added 11 in his season debut. Tanner Holden scored 27 points on 13-of-14 shooting and Brandon Noel added 25 points and 12 rebounds for the Raiders (5-6, 1-0 Horizon League).
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Miami scored on its first two offensive trips, a post move by Jaquel Morris and a three-pointer from Darweshi Hunter, to take an early 5-2 lead. Mirambeaux scored on his first possession after checking in to stretch the RedHawks' lead to 9-4 before WSU responded with a 15-2 spurt to force a Miami timeout.
- The Red and White immediately rattled off a 15-4 run to re-take the lead, including five quick points from Dean. An offensive rebound and putback by Eian Elmer put Miami on top 24-23. The two teams traded the lead back and forth before Mekhi Cooper buried back-to-back shots from behind the arc to give Miami a 34-29 cushion. The RedHawks grabbed their largest lead of the half at 41-35 on a Bultman three-pointer with 2:51 to play and took a 43-39 lead to the locker room.
- The visitors drained three-pointers on each of their first three possessions of the second half, as Hunter, Evan Ipsaro and Bultman each knocked down a three to stretch Miami's lead to 52-43. The Raiders wouldn't go away, promptly putting together an 11-2 run to knot the score at 54-all with 16 minutes remaining. After the media timeout, Wright State scored the next seven points, but a Ryan Mabrey triple and a Reece Potter dunk quickly trimmed the deficit. Although WSU matched its largest lead of the game at 72-64, a long-range bucket from Dean sparked an 8-2 burst to pull Miami within two at the 7:43 mark.
- An emphatic one-handed follow jam by Morris cut the home team's lead to 80-78 heading to the final media timeout, but Wright State scored the next seven points, including back-to-back transition dunks, to buy some breathing room. The RedHawks were unable to get any closer down the stretch as WSU closed out a 92-82 victory.
GAME NOTES:
- Miami outscored WSU 38-4 in bench points (21-0 in the first half).
- Morris matched his career high with four assists.
- Miami shot 11-for-25 (44%) from the three-point line and made at least 10 three-pointers in a game for the fourth time this season.
