The Miami University women's basketball team heads north to face the Michigan Wolverines on Saturday, Dec. 16. Opening tip is set for 11 a.m.
GREAT SCOTT: Senior Jadyn Scott currently leads the team in scoring (14.0) and rebounding (4.6). She has led the team in scoring five times this season, surpassing 20 points twice.
IN WITH THE NEW: Head Coach Glenn Box and his staff brought in eight new players for the 2023-24 campaign. Joining the RedHawks are four transfers and four freshmen, including one from Spain and two from Canada.
ROAD WARRIORS: Saturday will be Miami's fifth road game of the season and the RedHawks don't return home until Jan. 3 for a Mid-American Conference game against Toledo. Miami will play just one home game the entire month of December.
ABOUT MICHIGAN: Michigan is 8-2 on the year, including most recently an 84-48 victory over Illinois on Dec. 10. Laila Phelia is tops on the team with a 15.3 scoring average as the lone Wolverine in double figures.
SERIES WITH MICHIGAN: This will be the seventh meeting between the two programs with the series tied at 3-3. Michigan won 97-55 back in 2015, the most recent meeting between the two teams.
DAYTON RECAP: Núria Jurjo, Jadyn Scott and Amber Tretter combined to score 42 points, but it wasn't enough as the Miami University women's basketball team dropped a 73-60 decision to the Dayton Flyers last Saturday. Jurjo scored a new career high (14), while Tretter recorded a career-best four assists.
YOUTH MOVEMENT: Head Coach Glenn Box has made a youth movement with the team. He regularly starts three or four freshman each night, and freshmen Lakresha Edwards, Amber Tretter and Núria Jurjo have started each of the past four contests.
NEW IMPACT: Miami's newcomers have dominated the box score this season, recording 87% of the points, 86% of the rebounds, 90% of field goals made and 89% of minutes played.Â
RICHASON OUT: Junior Katey Richason missed the home contest versus Dayton and her return is yet to be determined. She is Miami's top returning scorer (3.9 points/game in 2022-23). After scoring in double-figures just three times in her first two seasons, Richason scored nine points at Vermont, and had her second career double-double (11 pts. and 11 rebs.) in the win over Xavier.Â
SISTER, SISTER: Twin sisters Jadyn and Jada Scott were four-year letter winners for the Cincinnati Bearcats before joining Miami. The duo combined to play in 194 games in their career at UC. Last season Jadyn was eighth on the team in scoring (3.6), while Jada was 11th (1.8). In their first year with the RedHawks the duo ranks first and sixth for Miami in scoring.
WOMAN OF STEAL: Since seeing a major increase in playing time, junior guard Cori Lard has made a living on the defensive side of the ball. She has 10 steals over her past four games (missed MSU contest), including a career best five steals versus Western Kentucky.
EDWARDS EXPLOSION: After scoring five total points in Miami's first three games, freshman Lakresha Edwards has combined for 41 points over the past four contests. She had a career-best 15 points at EKU and added 14 points in the win over Xavier. She is 10-for-23 from behind the arc over her past four games.
CATCHING ON QUICK: Amber Tretter has seen action in all seven games this season, scoring in double figures twice. She is coming off a career-best 14 points in the loss to Dayton and back on Dec. 3 she had eight rebounds at Michigan State. The freshman's highlight moment to this point though has to be the game-winning overtime bucket versus Xavier with 6.5 seconds to play.
