EVANSTON, Ill. — The Miami University field hockey team shut down and shut out the University of California by a score of 3-0 on Wednesday afternoon to move on to the next round of the NCAA tournament, where they will go up against Northwestern University. The loss finishes Cal's season with a 12-8 record. The RedHawks move to 15-7 on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- On a penalty corner with seconds remaining in the first quarter, Claudia Negrete Garcia scored to take a 1-0 lead for the RedHawks. She was assisted by Madison Workman and Carlie Servis.
- The second period ended without a change in score, sending the RedHawks into the second half with a 1-0 lead.
- With minutes remaining, Servis scored in the third quarter to double the Miami lead to 2-0.
- Under four minutes into the final stanza, Negrete Garcia scored on another penalty corner, again assisted by Workman and Servis. The RedHawks held their 3-0 lead through the conclusion of the game.
UP NEXT: The RedHawks advance to face Northwestern on Friday, Nov. 10 at 1 p.m. ET in Evanston, Ill. to determine who will advance to the second round.
