SCSU Tops RedHawks in Series Finale

ST. CLOUD, Minn. — After nearly 30 minutes of scoreless hockey, (RV/NA) St. Cloud State broke through with three goals in a four-minute span of the second period and went on to defeat (RV/RV) Miami 6-0 Saturday night.

Bruno Bruveris made his collegiate debut in goal for the RedHawks (4-3-1, 0-2-0 NCHC) and stopped 27 shots. Joe Molenaar led the Huskies (4-4-0, 2-0-0 NCHC) with three goals.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • 8:34 2nd (SCSU 1-0) | The Huskies took advantage of a Miami turnover to collect the game's first goal midway through the second period. Molenaar retrieved the loose puck in SCSU's offensive zone and worked himself past a RedHawk defender to lift a shot over Bruveris.
  • 10:07 2nd (SCSU 2-0) | SCSU doubled its advantage less than two minutes later, as Josh Luedtke picked up the puck at his own blue line and sprinted it forward. Luedtke fired an unassisted shot from along the right wall to make it 2-0.
  • 12:24 2nd (SCSU 3-0) | St. Cloud State capitalized on its momentum in the middle period with a power-play goal to extend its lead to 3-0. Veeti Miettinen converted from deep off assists from Adam Ingram and Dylan Anhorn.
  • 0:21 3rd (SCSU 4-0) | The Huskies struck again on the opening shift of the third period. After a backhand attempt from Anhorn, Molenaar tracked down the puck behind the net and knocked it toward the crease, where it deflected off a Miami player and in.
  • 15:01 3rd (SCSU 5-0) | Jack Peart picked up his first goal of the season late in the third period, finding the back of the net off assists from Grant Ahcan and Mason Salquist.
  • 18:32 3rd (SCSU 6-0) | Molenaar completed his hat trick with 1:28 to play, corralling a rebound and sending it into the goal. Salquist and Kyler Kupka were credited with assists.
