Tigers Hand Miami First Home Loss

OXFORD, Ohio — The Miami University hockey team fell to (RV/RV) Colorado College by a 5-1 score Friday night at Steve "Coach" Cady Arena.

Matthew Barbolini scored the only goal for the RedHawks (4-4-1, 0-3-0 NCHC). Noah Laba led the Tigers (6-3-0, 1-2-0 NCHC) with four points.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • 7:58 1st (CC 1-0) | The Tigers were whistled for a major penalty in the first period, but Laba collected an unassisted, shorthanded goal during the RedHawks' power play to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.
  • 15:27 1st (CC 2-0) | Laba doubled the Tigers' advantage to 2-0 on a backdoor feed from Zaccharya Wisdom. It was Gleb Veremyev who put the play in motion, starting a 2-on-1 break. Despite a diving effort by the RedHawks' defense, CC kept the puck alive and finished the play.
  • 17:44 1st (CC 3-0) | Colorado College capitalized on a Miami major penalty with a pair of late power-play goals in the opening period. Nicklas Andrews made it 3-0 with a long shot from near the blue line, converting off passes from Evan Werner and Ethan Straky.
  • 18:42 1st (CC 4-0) | CC struck again just under a minute later, as Ryan Beck took a cross-ice pass in the right circle and fired a shot that Veremyev knocked home near the far goalpost. Laba was also credited with an assist on the play. 
  • 13:25 2nd (CC 5-0) | The Tigers' lead stretched to 5-0 when Nicklas took the puck from center ice to the RedHawk defensive zone and fed it to Veremyev, who put it in for his second goal of the game. Laba registered the secondary assist.
  • 5:24 3rd (Miami 5-1) | Barbolini took advantage of a third-period Miami power play to cut the deficit to 5-1. PJ Fletcher redirected a long-distance Spencer Cox shot in front, and Barbolini knocked the puck home to get the RedHawks on the board.
 
GAME NOTES:
  • Miami registered 32 shots on goal to CC's 30, led by four from John Waldron.
  • The RedHawks were 1-4 on the power play, while the visitors finished 2-6.
  • 10 different Miami players, including four forwards, blocked at least one CC shot.
  • Logan Neaton made 25 saves for the Red and White.

The RedHawks and Tigers conclude their two-game series Saturday, Nov. 11 at Cady Arena. Puck drop is set for 7:05 p.m.
