Oxford, Ohio – The Miami University men's basketball team defeated Coppin State 76-48 at Millett Hall on Friday evening.
Bryce Bultman led the RedHawks (1-2) with 21 points, and
Evan Ipsaro added an additional 13. Justin Winston led the Eagles (0-5) with 12 points.
How it Happened:
- Coppin State took an early 4-0 lead with 17:50 on the game clock. Darweshi Hunter got Miami on the board after knocking down a three-point shot that was passed by Jaquel Morris. Hunter didn't stop there, scoring a put-back dunk to give the Red and White their first lead of the game at 5-4. The Eagles answered by retaking the lead at 8-5 before Mekhi Cooper dished out a cross-court pass to Ryan Mabrey to reclaim the lead at 11-8. Miami remained ahead by one point at 16-15 at the midpoint of the first half.
- Hunter threw a no-look pass to Morris at the 9:12 mark to stretch the RedHawk advantage to 21-15. Bultman scored 10 straight points for the RedHawks to extend Miami's lead to 33-19 with 2:34 to play before the break. Miami ended the half on a 24-5 run to head into the intermission ahead 40-20.
- Bultman scored the first five points of the second half after recording a traditional three-point play and a layup. Morris kept Miami ahead by more than 20 points at 49-25 thanks to a dunk and layup. Miami did not slow down, scoring two consecutive threes to gain their first 30-point lead of the game at 55-25. Not long after, Jackson Kotecki got into the mix after throwing down a pair of dunks with 11:33 to play.
- With 5:49 left in the game, the Eagles trailed by 23 points. This late effort from Coppin State wasn't enough, as the Red and White went on to close out the game with a 76-48 victory.
