SATURDAY'S GAME: Miami men's basketball enters the 2023-24 regular season home opener against Texas State. Travis Steele begins his second season at the helm of the program after completing his first season with a 12-20 (6-12 MAC) record. The opening tip is slated for Saturday, Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. (EST). This game is a part of the MAC vs. Sun Belt Challenge. Miami will travel to take on their second Sun Belt opponent on Feb. 10.
ABOUT TEXAS STATE: Texas State University went 16-19 and 6-12 in conference play last year. Head coach Terrence Johnson begins his ninth season with the Bobcats after leading the team to the Sun Belt Tournament Semifinals just a year ago. There are three starters and six letterwinners returning for Texas State this year.Â
THE SERIES WITH THE BOBCATS: Saturday will be the first all-time meeting between Miami and Texas State.Â
TELEVISION: Saturday's game will be aired on ESPN+.

UP NEXT: Miami Men's Basketball will play 15 home games this year at Millett Hall. The Miami men will host six non-conference games, including a two-game homestand that is a part of the Miami Classic in mid-November. This will span from Friday Nov. 17 through Sunday Nov. 19. The next game for Travis Steele's squad is set for Friday, Nov. 17 vs. Coppin State at 7 p.m. This is the Red and White's first game in the Miami Classic.Â
EVANSVILLE RECAP: Graduate transfer Darweshi Hunter led all RedHawks with 21 points (6-8 from beyond the arc), but the Miami University men's basketball team (0-1) dropped a 72-64 decision to Evansville (1-0) to open the 2023-24 season. The RedHawks led 34-32 entering halftime but ultimately dropped the contest.Â
CONNECT FOUR: In his first collegiate game, freshman Jackson Kotecki played a very efficient game. In nine minutes, he totaled eight points on 4-4 from the field.Â
NEW FACES: The RedHawks boast seven freshmen, three sophomores, two juniors, a senior and two graduate students. Three of these players are finding a new home in Oxford after transferring to Miami University this season.Â
FRESHMEN IMPACT: Miami's freshmen totaled 16 of 64 total points in the season opener against Evansville. Point guards Evan Ipsaro and Mekhi Cooper each led the team with a pair of steals. Eian Elmer led all RedHawks with seven rebounds and one block.Â
FRESH ON THE SCENE: Bryce Bultman is a guard from McKendree university where he averaged 15.2 points, 6.3 rebounds and 4.1 assists. In his final year with McKendree, Bultman earned Unanimous First Team All-GLVC, NABC All District All-Midwest District First Team and D2CAA First Team All-Region.Â
Bradley Dean is a guard from the University of Virginia College at Wise. During his tenure he averaged 14.8 points, 3.6 assists and 3.1 rebounds. In his last campaign with the team, Dean was named a member of the D2CCA All-Southeast Region First Team, he was a D2CCA All-American Honorable Mention and earned NABC Second Team Southeast All-District. He also was named the South Atlantic Conference (SAC) Player of the Year and made First Team All-SAC.
Darweshi Hunter is a guard from Northern Illinois University. While attending he averaged 6.4 pts, 2.8 rebounds and 0.6 assists with the Huskies. Prior to Northern Illinois, Hunter attended both Weber State and Central State (division II). While attending Central State, Hunter was named to the Division II Conference Commissioners Associations (D2CCA), All-South Region First Team and All-Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) First Team. He also earned SIAC Freshman of the Year and Newcomer of the Year.
