Miami Battles to 1-1 Tie With No. 13 Arizona State

OXFORD, Ohio — The Miami University hockey team tied No. 13 Arizona State University 1-1 on Saturday night to extend the RedHawks' unbeaten streak to five games. Logan Neaton made 29 saves, as Miami and Arizona State both move to 4-1-1 on the season. Robby Drazner scored his first goal of the year for the Red and White, and Matthew Barbolini made his 100th appearance as a RedHawk.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • 10:36 1st (Miami 1-0) | Drazner established a 1-0 lead for the RedHawks midway through the first period. Michael Feenstra got his initial shot blocked, but stayed with the play and recovered the puck near the end boards. PJ Fletcher skated it out before dropping it behind him to Drazner, who fired to put Miami on top.
  • 2:11 2nd (Arizona State 1-1) | Lukas Sillinger tied the game up on a goal that was barely edged in off an assisting pass from Dylan Jackson. Sillinger started the play in his own end and took the return feed to knot the score at 1-1.
  • Miami had a crucial penalty kill on a Sun Devil 5-on-3 power play in the second half of the third period to keep the game tied. The RedHawks had some promising chances near the ASU net down the stretch, especially in overtime, but the five-minute extra session ended with the same 1-1 score. Arizona State's Matthew Kopperud was the only player to score in the ensuing three-round shootout.

GAME NOTES:
  • Feenstra collected a point for the second consecutive night after the sophomore defenseman earned his first career point Friday.
  • Fletcher extended his point streak to four games.
  • Both teams went 4-for-4 on the penalty kill.
  • Miami blocked 26 shots, led by Jack Clement's five and Ryan Sullivan's four.
  • Neaton was named the First Star of the Game, while Drazner earned Third Star honors.
  • The RedHawks' five-game unbeaten streak is the program's longest since the 2016-17 season.

Miami begins NCHC play next weekend with a trip to St. Cloud State. Puck drop on Friday, Nov. 3 is set for 8:30 p.m. ET in St. Cloud, Minn.
