YPSILANTI, Mich. — The Miami University volleyball team fell in four sets to Eastern Michigan University Friday night at the George Gervin GameAbove Center. The hosting Eagles won by a score of 25-20, 25-20, 19-25, 25-18. Miami moves to 5-19 (1-11 MAC) on the season, while Eastern Michigan improves to 3-22 (1-12 MAC).
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Eastern Michigan jumped ahead 5-2 at the start of play, but
Brooke Jackson and
Gentry Warrick combined for a pair of kills to come within one at 7-6. The Eagles went on to score the next four points and looked to extend the lead heading into the second half of the set. Approaching the end of the set, Warrick knocked down a clutch block to keep Miami within three at 22-19. The offensive push from the RedHawks fell short in the end, as Eastern Michigan took the first set 25-20.
Miami opened the second set on fire, putting down a service ace and three kills to command a 4-1 advantage. The Eagles made a strong push at 10-8, but
Ellie Hanson recorded two quick kills and,
Hayden Hicks added a service ace to stretch Miami's lead to 13-8. Approaching the end of the set, the Red and White held onto a six-point lead at 18-12. Eastern Michigan built momentum late in the set and went on to take the second set 25-20.
The third set was tied at 4-4 before Miami recorded four consecutive kills to make the score 8-4.The Eagles came within one point at 15-14, but two service errors committed by Eastern Michigan and a
Chelsea Williams service ace kept Miami ahead at 18-15. In the end, numerous attack errors by the Eagles and a collection of kills gave Miami a 25-19 third set win.
The Eagles opened the fourth set with a 7-2 advantage. This did not deter the RedHawks, as
Maggie McCrary and Warrick put down back-to-back blocks to come within 10-7. Eastern Michigan then went on a 5-0 run to make the score 15-7. Despite a strong effort, the Red and White dropped in the fourth set 25-18.
GAME NOTES:

- Margo Lawson notched a team-high 21 digs.
