OXFORD, Ohio – On Friday afternoon, the Miami University field hockey team shut out Central Michigan 7-0. The RedHawks out-shot the visitors 40-3 and move to 10-7 on the year (5-1 in Mid-American Conference). The Chippewas drop to 1-13 (0-6 in MAC).
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Halfway through the first quarter, the RedHawks struck. Reese Wearren scored on an assist from Becca Kline to grab a 1-0 lead.
- Claudia Negrete Garcia then scored her ninth goal of the season with just over five minutes remaining in the quarter, doubling the RedHawk lead to 2-0.
- With just over six minutes remaining in the second quarter, Carlie Servis scored her seventh goal of the season to stretch the lead to 3-0 heading into the second half.
- Under a minute into the third quarter, Paula Peña Martinez scored the RedHawks' fourth goal of the game to put them up 4-0, which they held through the remainder of the third.
- In the first few seconds of the fourth quarter, Peña Martinez scored her second goal of the game, making it a 5-0 RedHawk lead.
- Servis scored her second goal of the game, unassisted, with under 10 minutes to play to give Miami a 6-0 advantage.
- Paula Navarro made it 7-0 with her first goal of the season to finish the scoring.
- The RedHawks did not allow a CMU shot until less than three minutes remained in the game.
