OXFORD, Ohio — Artur Turansky collected two goals and the Miami University hockey team scored in all three periods in a 4-2 win over Canisius Friday night.
Logan Neaton stopped 31 of the 33 shots he faced to help the RedHawks (2-1-0, 0-0-0 NCHC) claim victory in their home opener and remain perfect all-time against the Golden Griffins (0-1-0, 0-0-0 AHA).
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- 4:51 1st (Miami 1-0) | Turansky lifted one into the net off of assists from William Hallén and Max Dukovac to grab his first goal of the season and give the RedHawks a 1-0 lead. Hallén initially won the puck in his own end and was trailing the play coming across the blue line, but ended up being the one to lay off a backdoor feed to Turansky for the easy finish.
- 13:21 1st (Miami 2-0) | Raimond Vitolins doubled the Miami lead 2-0 later in the period off a sneaky pass from John Waldron, tallying his first goal as a RedHawk. Spencer Cox set up the sequence from the top of the zone and picked up an assist after Waldron's playmaking and Vitolins' shot.
- 17:35 1st (Canisius 2-1) | The Golden Griffins halved the lead to 2-1 on a breakaway goal from Randy Hernandez, assisted by Jackson Decker.
- 9:39 2nd (Miami 3-1) | Turansky tipped in his second goal of the game with seconds remaining in a RedHawk power play. It was Axel Kumlin who fed it to him from Hampus Rydqvist to make it a 3-1 game.
- 2:25 3rd (Miami 4-1) | PJ Fletcher extended Miami's lead with a power-play goal early in the third period. Fletcher took the puck to the back of the net from the top of the circle on a centering pass from Dukovac, who received the puck from Matthew Barbolini.
- 17:29 3rd (Canisius 4-2) | Matteo Giampa got his own rebound and fired in an unassisted goal with less than three minutes remaining to account for the 4-2 final margin.
