OMAHA, Neb. — The Miami University hockey team dropped a 4-1 decision at (RV/RV) Omaha Friday night.
Thomas Daskas scored his second goal of the year for the RedHawks (7-14-2, 2-10-1), while
Ludvig Persson made 26 saves in net. Matt Miller led the Mavericks (12-9-2, 7-5-1 NCHC) with two goals.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- 1:00 1st (UNO 1-0) | Omaha got on the board in the first minute as Jack Randl tipped the puck toward Ty Mueller to carry down the left side of the rink. The play turned into a 2-on-1 with Mueller feeding across to Miller for the early goal.
- 13:06 1st (Miami 1-1) | Miami answered back later in the period, as Max Dukovac won the puck behind Omaha's net, skated it out from the end wall, and fed Daskas on the far side of the crease. Daskas redirected the puck out of midair to even the score at 1-1.
- 4:36 2nd (UNO 2-1) | The Mavericks re-took the lead in the middle stanza. Nolan Sullivan picked up the puck at center ice, skated it forward, and sent a centering pass across the crease. Jimmy Glynn unsuccessfully attempted to get a stick on it near the goal, but he was in the right place to finish off a rebound of the ensuing shot from Victor Mancini.
- 8:52 2nd (UNO 3-1) | Omaha doubled its advantage later in the second period. Tyler Weiss stole the puck in Miami's defensive zone and fed it to Jake Pivonka in the middle for a one-timer that made it 3-1.
- 10:00 2nd (UNO 4-1) | The Mavericks struck again at the midway point of the game. After promising scoring chances for Matthew Barbolini and William Hallén, Omaha pushed ahead for a quick-developing 3-on-2. Randl's pass all the way across to Miller on the opposite wing set up the shot that gave the home team a 4-1 lead.
NOTES
- Michael Feenstra blocked a career-high four shots.
- Dukovac picked up his eighth assist of the year.
- Miami was a perfect 6-for-6 on the penalty kill.
