RedHawks Hold Off Huskies, 74-69

DEKALB, Ill. – The Miami University women's basketball team picked up its first road win of the season, downing Northern Illinois, 74-69 on Wednesday evening. Miami (7-11, 203 MAC) used a 12-0 run between the third and fourth quarter to take control of the road victory. NIU drops to 10-6 overall and 2-3 in conference play.
 
Ivy Wolf had a game-high 23 points and was joined by Peyton Scott (18) and Maddi Cluse (15) in double figures. Cluse and Scott combined for 19 rebounds and Wolf had a team-high four assists.
 
How it Happened:
  • Miami led 17-13 at the end of the first quarter. Wolf was tops on the team with six points and Katey Richason came off the bench to chip in with four.
  • A Scott jumper from 15 feet away, followed by a Wolf triple as the shot clock expired gave Miami its largest lead of the half, 35-25. Miami led 35-27 after 20 minutes of play.
  • NIU scored quickly to start the second half, cutting the deficit 40-36, but a three-point play from Cluse, pushed Miami's advantage back to seven midway through the third quarter. The Huskies tied the contest at 45 apiece and moments later took their first lead (50-48) since leading 3-2 in the first quarter. NIU extended their advantage, 52-48, but a triple from Cluse and a pair of free throws from Richason to close the quarter spotted Miami a 53-52 lead entering the fourth.
  • Miami scored the first seven points of the final stanza for a 60-52 lead. Wolf's fourth three-pointer of the game made it 66-57 with five minutes to play. NIU got as close as 70-67, but free throws from Scott down the stretch kept the Huskies at bay.
 
Game Notes:
  • Maddi Cluse recorded her sixth double-double of the season, finishing with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
  • Peyton Scott connected on a career-high 12-of-14 free throws.
  • Miami out-rebounded the Huskies 43-34 and finished the contest with 18 second-chance points, compared to NIU's seven.
