OXFORD, Ohio— The Miami University volleyball team (2-3) dropped a three-set match against Bellarmine (3-3) at the Miami Best Western Invitational, 15-25, 17-25, 22-25.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Bellarmine opened up a 12-5 lead in the first set and carried that momentum.
Abby Stratford led the team with three kills in this set, although the Knights went on to claim the first set, 25-15.
The second set began with the Knights pulling ahead 5-2. With the help of kills from
Gentry Warrick and
Allyson Severance, Miami outscored Bellarmine 6-3 to tie the match at 8-8, but the Knights won the set, 25-17.
Miami fell behind 7-3 at the beginning of the third set. A pair of
Brooke Jackson kills sparked a RedHawk comeback, eventually tying the game at 9-9. Stratford's six kills in the set helped the effort, although Miami fell 22-25.
NOTES:
- Hayden Hicks had a team-high of 18 assists.
- Stratford recorded a team-high of 11 kills.
- Ellie Hanson led the team in digs with 10.
