LOUISVILLE, Ky. – On Friday afternoon, the Miami University field hockey team defeated Bellarmine University 3-1. The win brings the RedHawks to 6-3 overall and 2-0 in the Mid-American Conference. The loss drops the Knights to 1-8 overall and 1-1 in MAC competition.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The first quarter ended without a change in the 0-0 score.
- Less than a minute into the second quarter, Paula Peña Martinez scored during a penalty corner, giving the RedHawks a 1-0 lead. She was assisted by Macy McHale and Luli Rosso.
- Just over five minutes into the second quarter, the Knights scored, tying the game 1-1.
- At the very end of the second quarter, during a penalty corner, McHale scored her first goal of the season, allowing the RedHawks to secure the 2-1 lead through the end of the first half. She was assisted by Katherine Groff.
- About eight minutes into the third quarter, during a penalty corner, Peña Martinez scored her second goal of the game and eighth of the season. The RedHawks' lead stretched to 3-1. Peña Martinez was assisted by McHale and Rosso.
- The RedHawks held their lead through the end of the third and fourth quarter, winning the game 3-1.
