RedHawks Down Fairfield University 2-1

OXFORD, Ohio – On Saturday afternoon the Miami University field hockey team downed Fairfield University 2-1. This brings the RedHawks to 5-3 on the season. The loss drops the Stags to 2-5 overall.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The end of the first quarter ended with no change in the 0-0 score.
  • With 42 seconds left in the second quarter, the Stags scored, finishing the first half with a 1-0 lead.
  • Just over five minutes into the third quarter, during a penalty corner, Claudia Negrete Garcia put the RedHawks on the board with a goal, evening the score 1-1. She was assisted by Macy McHale and Madison Workman.
  • The 1-1 score remained through the end of the third quarter. The RedHawks outshot the Stags 8-1 through 45 minutes of play.
  • During a penalty corner with just over five minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, Paula Peña Martinez scored, giving the RedHawks a 2-1 lead. She was assisted by McHale and Luli Rosso
  • The RedHawks held their lead through the end of the game, defeating the Stags 2-1.

The RedHawks return to action Friday, Sept. 23 at 2 p.m. to face Bellarmine University in Louisville, Ky.
