MT. PLEASANT, Mich. – The RedHawks dropped two games to Central Michigan to open the final series of the regular season. Miami fell behind CMU in both contests and struggled to answer back. In the first game, the RedHawks were unable to overcome an early offensive attack from the Chippewas, ending the game in a 5-3 loss for Miami. The second game saw both teams struggle to generate any offense for a majority of the contest. Miami combated a late scoring run from Central to send the game into extra innings. Unfortunately, the Chippewas were able to keep the momentum on their side through eight innings as the game finished in a 4-3 loss for Miami.
How it Happened (Game 1):
- Courtney Vierstra got the start for the RedHawks in the first game of the series. Vierstra recorded one strikeout while allowing five runs on six hits in 2.0 innings in the circle.
- Laurelai DePew came to relieve Vierstra at the bottom of the third. DePew allowed no runs on three hits while recording a strikeout in the contest.
- Maggie Murphy finished 2-for-4 from the plate with an RBI.
- Miami jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first, thanks to an RBI from Murphy in the top of the first.
- Central Michigan answered back with five runs of their own in the bottom of the second inning, bringing the score to 5-1 through two innings of play.
- The RedHawks added two runs to their total courtesy of a sacrifice bunt from Maclai Branson and a solo home run from Riley Coyne in the top of the sixth.
- Unfortunately, it was not enough to top Central Michigan as Miami dropped the first game, 5-3, against the Chippewas.
Notes:
- Coyne finished 1-for-2 with an RBI in the contest.
How it Happened (Game 2):
- Brianna Pratt stepped into the circle to start things off for Miami in the second game. Pratt recorded one strikeout while allowing no runs on two hits in three innings pitched.
- Taylor Turner came into relieve Pratt in the top of the fourth inning. Through 4.2 innings pitched, the freshman recorded five strikeouts while allowing four runs on six hits.
- Karli Spaid finished 2-for-4 from the plate with an RBI.
- Both teams struggled to generate any type of offense as no runs were scored through five full innings of play.
- Central Michigan struck first in the bottom of the sixth, recording two runs in the inning.
- Miami answered back immediately, offering two runs of their own thanks to to an RBI double from Spaid and an RBI triple from Holly Blaska that tied the game at two runs and sent the contest into extra innings.
- The RedHawks added one run to their total in the top of the eighth only to have Central Michigan add two runs in the bottom of the inning, ending the game in a 4-3 loss for Miami.

- Blaska finished 1-for-4 from the plate with an RBI.
