MT. PLEASANT, Mich.– The Miami softball team topped Central Michigan in the final game of the regular season on Sunday, 12-8. The RedHawks put together an impressive offensive performance in the game as they scored runs in every inning between the second and the sixth. CMU fought hard but couldn't counter Miami's consistent scoring attack.
How it Happened:
- Laurelai DePew made her first career start in the last regular-season game for the RedHawks. The freshman allowed four runs on six hits in 1.1 innings pitched.
- Taylor Turner came in to relieve DePew in the bottom of the second inning. Turner recorded four strikeouts while allowing four runs on nine hits during her 5.2 innings in the circle.
- Allie Cummins put on a fantastic performance from the plate, finishing 3-for-5 with four RBI.
- Adriana Barlow smashed a two-run home run in the top of the second, giving Miami an early 2-0 lead, but the Chippewas immediately answered back with four runs in the bottom of the inning.
- The RedHawks record four runs across the third and fourth innings, giving Miami a 6-5 lead. The rally included a two-run home run from Cummins and RBI singles from Lily Wilmot and Shelby Kunkel.
- The fifth inning saw the trio of Cummins (2), Wilmot (1), and Kunkel (1) record RBI to continue the Miami scoring streak and extend their lead to 10-5.
- In the top of the sixth, Karli Spaid added two runs to the Miami total after she smacked a home run to left field.
- Central countered with one run in the bottom of the seventh, but it proved too late as the game ended in Miami's 12-8 victory.

- Nine Miami batters recorded a hit in the game.
- Five Miami batters recorded an RBI.
- Spaid finished 2-for-4 with two RBI.
