Miami Blasts BGSU 11-0 to Win MAC Tournament

OXFORD, Ohio — The Miami softball team hit six home runs Saturday afternoon to propel the RedHawks to an 11-0 five-inning victory over Bowling Green in the final game of the MAC Softball Championship.
Brianna Pratt picked up the win in the circle, allowing no runs and one hit en route to earning tournament MVP honors. Riley Coyne and Karli Spaid each hit a pair of homers to lead the Miami offense.
With the victory, the RedHawks (39-15-1) earn an automatic berth to next week's 64-team NCAA Division I Softball Championship. Bowling Green ends the weekend at 32-19.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The RedHawks' offense got off to a good start in the opening inning. Karli Spaid led off the bottom of the first with a single, and Riley Coyne hammered a two-out, two-run homer over the left field wall to give Miami a 2-0 lead.
- Miami broke the game open in the second inning. A Chloe Parks RBI single up the middle made it 3-0, and Spaid followed with a two-run blast to straightaway center to give the RedHawks a 5-0 cushion. Holly Blaska made it back-to-back homers with a long drive to left-center, putting Miami up 6-0 and forcing a BGSU pitching change. After Allie Cummins beat out an infield single, Coyne ripped a homer just inside the left field foul pole for an 8-0 margin.
- Spaid drilled a solo shot to straightaway center field to start the bottom of the fourth inning, making it 9-0. Blaska walked, and after a fielder's choice, Kate Kobayashi crushed a deep two-run homer to give Miami an 11-0 lead.
MIAMI GAME NOTES
- Pratt, Blaska, Coyne and Spaid were named to the All-Tournament Team.
- Pratt improved to 18-4 on the season, allowing a single earned run in 19.2 innings over three days.
- Courtney Vierstra came in to get the final out in relief.
- Spaid, who went 3-for-3 with three RBI, set the MAC single-season record with her 27th home run.
- Coyne matched her career high with four RBI and became the fifth RedHawk to reach double figures in home runs this season.
