AKRON, Ohio — The Miami University baseball team defeated Akron 4-0 Saturday afternoon behind a dominant pitching performance from
Zach Maxey. The RedHawks (22-29, 17-18 MAC) picked up their third straight win over the Zips (13-38, 11-28 MAC).
Maxey (4-2) posted a complete-game shutout victory on the mound, striking out nine batters.
Brian Zapp hit a two-run homer to lead the Miami offense.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After six scoreless innings, Miami broke through in the seventh. David Novak was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning, and Zapp came through with a two-out blast over the right field wall to give the Red and White a 2-0 advantage.
- The RedHawks doubled their lead in the ninth. After Novak and Parker Lester reached base, William Escala brought them home with a two-out double to make it 4-0.
MIAMI GAME NOTES
- Maxey allowed three hits in nine scoreless innings and did not yield a walk.
- Zapp finished 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored.
- Zapp stole his team-leading 18th base, while Stephen Krause also stole a base for the RedHawks.
