AKRON, Ohio — The Miami University baseball team scored in all eight innings Sunday afternoon en route to a 20-3 victory at Akron.
Cole Andrews,
Benji Brokemond,
Nick Clark,
Zach MacDonald and
David Novak hit home runs for Miami.
Brady McLean earned the win on the mound, allowing three runs in five innings Sunday as the RedHawks (23-29, 18-18 MAC) evened their conference record with a four-game weekend sweep of the Zips (13-39, 11-29 MAC).
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Miami's offense was clicking from the beginning of the game, as solo home runs by MacDonald and Novak staked the RedHawks to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning.
- Leading 2-1, the visitors added on a pair of runs in the second. After JJ Woolwine was hit by a pitch and stole second base, Brokemond ripped a two-run homer to right-center to make it 4-1.
- Miami took a 5-1 lead in the third inning on a two-out RBI double from William Escala.
- The RedHawks increased the advantage to 7-1 in the fourth, as Brokemond and MacDonald reached base to start the inning and Andrews promptly brought them home with a two-run single up the middle.
- Leading 7-2, Miami tacked on a single run in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings. Brokemond drove in the RedHawks' eighth run on a fielder's choice, Stephen Krause accounted for the next run with a sacrifice fly the following inning, and MacDonald came home on a wild pitch in the seventh frame to put Miami up 10-3.
- The RedHawks doubled their scoring total in the eighth inning, racking up 10 more runs on just four hits. After a pair of Miami batters were hit by pitches with the bases loaded to drive in runs, a Brokemond bases-loaded single (and ensuing Akron error) made it 15-3, with a MacDonald sac fly, Andrews solo home run and Clark three-run homer further stretching the Miami lead.
