RedHawks' Bats Lead the Way in 11-5 Win

OXFORD, Ohio-- The Miami University baseball team picked up an 11-5 win in the series opener against Eastern Michigan Saturday afternoon. The RedHawks improve to 12-16 (8-8 MAC) while the Eagles drop to 10-16 (6-7 MAC).

Dalton Back's inside-the-park home run provided an early spark for the RedHawks. Six Miami batters reached base multiple times, led by Nick Neibauer, who went 3-for-3 with a walk and two RBI. Jonathan Brand continued his dominant pitching, allowing one earned run or less for the seventh time this season.

           The RedHawks continue their series in a doubleheader with Eastern Michigan Sunday April 10. First pitch for game one is scheduled for 1 p.m. in Oxford.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- In the bottom of the fourth of a scoreless game, Cole Andrews led off with a walk. After William Escala reached on an error, Back hit an inside-the-park home run, putting the RedHawks up 3-0.
 - In the bottom of the sixth, with the game tied at three, Stephen Krause led off with a double. Back reached on a walk, with both Krause and Back scoring on a two-out, two-run double by Neibauer to put the RedHawks up by two.
 - In the bottom of the eighth, with Miami leading by one, Parker Lester, Neibauer and Blake Buzzeo each walked to load the bases. JJ Woolwine then singled, driving in Lester. Brian Zapp drove in Neibauer on a sacrifice fly. Following an Andrews walk, Krause was hit by a pitch, scoring Buzzeo. During the following at-bat, Woolwine scored on a passed ball. Escala then singled, driving in Krause and Andrews and extending the RedHawks' lead to 11-4.
 
Miami Game Notes:
- Brand went six innings to pick up the win, allowing one earned run while striking out six batters.
 - Back reached base twice with three RBI and two runs scored.
 - Krause reached base three times with a double, an RBI, and two runs scored.
 - Woolwine went 2-for-5 with a double, an RBI and a run scored.
 - Luke Leverton and Brady McLean also saw action on the mound for the RedHawks.
