DeKALB, Ill.— The Miami University baseball team split a doubleheader at Northern Illinois Sunday, losing game one 3-2 before taking game two 7-5. The RedHawks' record moves to 11-14 (7-7 MAC), while the Huskies are now 5-20 (5-8 MAC).
The RedHawks fell in extra innings in game one of the doubleheader. In what was originally scheduled to be a seven-inning affair, the RedHawks dropped a 3-2 decision in the ninth.
Stephen Krause hit a home run for Miami, while
Zach Maxey went six innings on the mound without allowing an earned run.
In game two, the RedHawks jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning and never relinquished it, eventually taking the game 7-5.
Tyler Ronevich threw six strong innings, allowing just two runs, while
Nick DeMonica picked up his first career save. Krause and
Nick Neibauer led the way with two RBI each.
HOW IT HAPPENED: Game One
- With the RedHawks trailing 2-0 in the top of the sixth, William Escala doubled down the right-field line. Blake Buzzeo drove him in, cutting the Huskies' lead to one.
- In the top of the seventh, Krause belted a home run to left field, tying the game at two and sending it to extra innings.
- The Huskies won on a walk-off homer in the bottom of the ninth inning, taking game one.
Miami Game Notes: Game One
- Maxey threw six innings, allowing no earned runs, dropping his season era to 2.57.
- Krause belted his fifth home run of the season, which ties with Cole Andrews for the team lead.
HOW IT HAPPENED: Game Two
- In the top of the first, JJ Woolwine led off with a single, then advanced to second on a balk. Krause and Brian Zapp then walked, loading the bases. Neibauer then singled, driving in Krause and Woolwine, giving the 'Hawks a 2-0 lead.
- In the top of the second, Dalton Back led off with a single, then advanced to third on a Buzzeo double. During the next at-bat, Back scored on a wild pitch, while Buzzeo advanced to third. After Woolwine was hit by a pitch, Buzzeo scored and Woolwine eventually advanced to second on a balk. He later scored on an NIU error, putting the RedHawks up 5-1.
- In the top of the fourth, Woolwine walked, then advanced to second on an error. After a base hit from Andrews, Woolwine scored on a Krause two-out RBI single.
- In the top of the seventh, Neibauer reached on an error, then later scored on an another error, putting the RedHawks up 7-3.

- Ronevich threw six innings, allowing just two runs while striking out six batters.
- Krause reached base three times, driving in two runs while scoring once.
- Back went 2-for-3 with a run scored.
- Woolwine reached base three times, scoring three runs.
