
RedHawks Hit Four Home Runs in 11-1 Win Over EKU

RICHMOND, Ky. – The Miami softball team traveled to take on Eastern Kentucky on Wednesday evening. After a slow start, the RedHawks scored six runs in the fifth and four more in the seventh, for an 11-1 win over EKU. Miami has now lost just once in its last 16 games and sits at 29-13-1 overall and 17-3 in Mid-American Conference play. The RedHawks hit four home runs in the win and established a new school record with 92 home runs on the year.

How it Happened:
- Courtney Vierstra got the start in the circle for the RedHawks. The fifth year recorded three strikeouts through four innings while allowing just one run on one hit.
- Brianna Pratt stepped in to relieve Vierstra in the bottom of the fifth. Pratt allowed zero runs and no hits in three innings pitched while striking out four EKU batters.
- Karli Spaid had a fantastic day at the plate, finishing 2-for-4 with four RBI and a pair of home runs.
- Miami struck first in the top of the fourth after an RBI single from Holly Blaska put the RedHawks up 1-0.
- EKU immediately answered in the bottom half of the inning, tying the game at one run apiece. However, the RedHawks' offensive attack couldn't be stopped.
- In the top of the fifth, Miami produced a six-run flurry that included an RBI double from Allie Cummins and two two-run home runs from Spaid and Blaska, extending Miami's lead to 7-1.
- EKU failed to mount any type of comeback as a solo home run from Kate Kobayashi, an RBI single from Cummins, and another two-run home run from Spaid ended the game in an 11-1 Miami victory.
- Nine different Miami batters recorded a hit in the game.
- Cummins finished 2-for-5 with two RBI.
- Blaska finished 2-for-3 with three RBI.
