Baseball Falls in Series Finale at KSU

KENT, Ohio-- The Miami University baseball team dropped a 17-10 decision to Kent State Sunday afternoon. The RedHawks drop to 17-23 (12-15 MAC), while the Golden Flashes improve to 15-20 (10-12 MAC).

Stephen Krause led the way for the RedHawks at the plate, going 2-for-5 with four RBI.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • In the top of the first, Benji Brokemond walked, followed by a Zach MacDonald single. Cole Andrews was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Parker Lester then reached on a fielder's choice, driving in Brokemond, with MacDonald scoring on a throwing error. David Novak then doubled down the right-field line, scoring Andrews. Krause doubled down the left-field line, scoring Lester and Novak and giving the 'Hawks a 5-0 lead.
  • In the top of the fourth, with the game tied at five, JJ Woolwine came in to pinch hit and blasted a solo home run to right-center field, putting the RedHawks back up one.
  • In the top of the seventh, trailing 10-6, Andrews reached base on an error, Zapp walked and Novak singled, loading the bases. Krause singled to left field, driving in Zapp and Andrews, while advancing Novak to third. William Escala then singled, driving in Novak, cutting the Kent State lead to one.
  • In the top of the ninth, trailing 17-9, Nick Neibauer reached on a fielder's choice and eventually came in to score the RedHawks' final run on a KSU error.
 
Miami Game Notes:
  • MacDonald reached base three times with a run scored and a stolen base.
  • Novak went 2-for-4 with an RBI, run scored and a double.
  • Escala went 3-for-5 with an RBI.
 
What's Next:
            The RedHawks host Ohio University in a four-game set starting Friday, April 29 in Oxford. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
