OXFORD, Ohio – The Miami softball team dropped a pair of contests to the Ohio Bobcats on Saturday. Miami dropped a 13-12 decision (11 innings) in game one and fell 12-7 in the second contest. Miami is now 15-12 overall and 6-2 in Mid-American Conference play.
How it Happened (Game 1):
- Brianna Pratt led off the day in the circle for the RedHawks. The junior recorded five strikeouts while allowing three runs on seven hits through 4.1 innings.
- Taylor Turner came in to relieve Pratt in the bottom of the fifth, giving up no hits and striking out one batter during her time in the circle.
- Courtney Vierstra entered the contest at the top of the sixth. Vierstra pitched six innings, allowing seven runs on nine hits with one strikeout.
- Allie Cummins (solo) and Maggie Murphy (two-run) recorded home runs in the bottom of the first inning, giving the RedHawks an early 3-0 lead.
- Miami's lead extended to 4-0 after a Lily Wilmot sacrifice fly allowed Cummins to race home for the score.
- Ohio mounted a comeback in the top of the fifth with four runs of their own, tying the game at four runs apiece.
- The RedHawks struck right back in the bottom of the fifth. A Cummins double to start the inning set up a two-run home run from Karli Spaid. A Wilmot home run to left-center soon followed, giving Miami a three-run lead.
- Ohio rattled off four runs in the top of the sixth to overtake Miami, 8-7.
- A Cummins RBI single tied the game at eight runs going into the seventh inning.
- In the seventh, The Bobcats recorded one run in the top of the inning.
- Kate Kobayashi kept Miami in the contest with a solo home run in the bottom of the inning, but the RedHawks failed to post another run taking the game into extra innings.
- Both teams added two runs to their total inning in the eighth inning, tying the game at 11.
- A Holly Blaska home run in the bottom of the 10th tied that game at 12 runs.
- One run scored by the Bobcats in the top of the 11th would be the finishing blow, ending the game in a 13-12 loss for Miami.
Notes:
- Cummins went 3-for-5 with two RBI in the contest.
- Blaska went 4-for-5 from the plate with three RBI.
- Six different Miami batters recorded a home run in the game.
How it Happened (Game 2):
- Pratt entered the circle once again to start the second game. In her second appearance, Pratt allowed eight runs on nine hits and struck out four batters in 4.1 innings.
- Turner took over at the top of the fifth but didn't see much success. The sophomore didn't even make it out of the inning after giving up two runs during her time in the circle.
- Freshman Laurelai DePew entered the game in place of Turner. In her second appearance of the year, DePew pitched 2.1 innings, allowing two runs on five hits with two strikeouts.
- Miami jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first courtesy of a two-run triple from Kobayashi, an RBI double from Murphy, and an RBI single from Riley Coyne.
- A Spaid two-run home run to right field and a Blaska RBI single added three runs to Miami's total, giving the RedHawks a seven-run lead after two innings of play.
- Ohio responded with one run in the top of the third and fourth and eight runs in the top of the fifth, overtaking the lead from Miami, 10-7.
- Another two runs from Ohio in the top of the seventh would prove too much for Miami as the game ended in a 12-7 RedHawk loss.

- Kobayashi went 2-for-3 with two RBI.
- Blaska went a perfect 3-for-3 with an RBI.
- Spaid went 2-for-4 with a home run.
