OXFORD, Ohio – The Miami softball team edged out Ohio University in the first game of a weekend series, 4-3. Trailing 3-1 with two outs in the seventh inning, Miami scored three runs, capped by a two-run single from
Maggie Murphy to plate two. The RedHawks are now 15-10 overall and 6-0 in MAC play, while Ohio drops to 8-17, 2-4 MAC.
How it Happened:
- Courtney Vierstra got the win in the circle for the RedHawks. The senior pitched a complete game, striking out six while allowing three runs on eight hits.
- Maggie Murphy went 3-for-4 with three RBI in the contest.
- The Bobcats struck first, driving in two runs at the top of the fourth inning.
- In the bottom of the sixth, a leadoff double from Kate Kobayashi would set up an RBI single from Murphy, bringing the score to 2-1.
- Ohio would answer back with another score of their own, extending the lead to two runs, but the RedHawks refused to back down.
- An RBI single from Kobayashi in the bottom of the seventh would bring Miami within one run of Ohio.
- Murphy dealt the final blow to the Bobcats with a walk-off RBI single that lead to two runs for the RedHawks, ending the game in a 4-3 Miami victory.
