Tuscaloosa, Ala. – The Miami softball team dropped a pair of games against Texas and Alabama Saturday afternoon. In their matchup against Texas, the RedHawks fell behind and couldn't make up the deficit, losing 14-3. Against Alabama, Miami held a lead through three full innings, only to end up losing the game 4-2.
How it Happened (Texas):
- Brianna Pratt got the start for the RedHawks but struggled to find a rhythm. Pratt pitched 3.1 innings, giving up nine runs while only striking out one Texas batter.
- Taylor Turner came in to relieve Pratt in the top of the fourth but didn't find much success. Through 1.2 innings, Turner only struck out one batter while allowing five runs for the Longhorns.
- Allie Cummins started off hot at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.
- The RedHawks struggled to get things going from the start, falling behind 5-0 after one inning of play.
- Miami attempted to answer back in the bottom of the second behind a Cummins RBI single.
- In the following three innings, the RedHawks would give up a total of nine runs while only adding two runs to their total courtesy of an RBI single from Lily Wilmot and another from Cummins.
- The offensive attack from the Longhorns would prove to be too much for the RedHawks, though, as they dropped the game on a run-rule, 14-3.
How it Happened (Alabama):
- Courtney Vierstra started for Miami in the second game of their double header. The senior pitcher allowed four runs while striking out two batters through six innings.
- Maggie Murphy went 1-for-3 from the plate with one RBI.
- The RedHawks jumped out to a 1-0 lead at the top of the second inning after Allie Cummins grounded out, allowing Holly Blaska to race home for a score.
- Miami would ended conceding a total of four runs in the through the fourth and fifth innings. A Murphy homerun in the top of the fifth would be their only answer.
- After a hard fought effort, Miami would fall to the Crimson Tide, 4-2.
