Baseball Falls 4-3 At Georgia Southern

STATESBORO, Ga. The Miami University baseball team dropped a 4-3 decision at Georgia Southern University Friday night. The RedHawks fall to 3-5 on the season, while GSU picks up their fourth win.
 
Starting pitcher Jonathan Brand led the way for Miami with 10 strikeouts, while JJ Woolwine reached base four times in the loss.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Georgia Southern took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fifth, adding two more runs in the bottom of the sixth to go up 3-0.
  • In the top of the seventh, Cristian Tejada reached base on a hit by pitch, then William Escala doubled, putting runners on second and third for the visitors. Stephen Krause then drove in Tejada to get the RedHawks on the board.
  • In the top of the eighth, Woolwine led off with a walk, eventually making his way to third base following a failed pickoff and a groundout. Cole Andrews then drove in Woolwine, cutting the GSU lead to one.
  • In the bottom of the eighth, the Eagles responded with a run of their own to make it 4-2.
  • In the top of the ninth, Stephen Krause doubled to center. Aaron Massie followed with an RBI single, driving in Krause for the final run of the game.
 
Miami Game Notes:
  • Brand allowed one hit and no earned runs in his five innings of work.
  • Escala went 2-for-4 with a double.
  • Woolwine reached base four times, scoring one run.
  • Tejada reached base twice, scoring once.
 
What's Next:
            The RedHawks face Georgia Southern University in game two of their three-game set Saturday, March 4. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
