Miami Softball Picks Up Back to Back Wins Friday

JOHN CITY, Tennessee– The Miami University softball team traveled to Tennessee to face East Tennessee State in a pair of games Friday afternoon. The RedHawks' offense helped them cruise to victory in both matchups, topping the Buccaneers 7-1 and 8-1. Kate Kobayashi and Allie Cummins put on amazing performances from the plate, both totaling three home runs across both games. Defensively, Miami allowed just seven hits through 14 innings of play.

How it Happened (Game One):
  • Brianna Pratt pitched a complete game for the RedHawks while matching a career-high 10 strikeouts. Pratt allowed just fours hits in the contest that lead to a total of one run for ETSU.
  • Kobayashi performed great from the plate after going 2-for-3, rattling off three RBI.
  • The RedHawks took control of the game from the opening pitch, jumping out to a 3-0 lead at the top of the first behind a two-run double from Karlee Juarez and a Cummins home run.
  • A two-run home run from Kobayashi kept Miami's momentum going through the top of the third, extending their lead to 5-0.
  • The Buccaneers would try and answer back with a score of their own in the bottom of the fourth, but it did little to stop the RedHawks' attack.
  • At the top of the seventh, an RBI single from Macee Roberts would extend Miami's lead to 6-0. Kobayashi would deliver the final blow with another home run in the inning, giving the RedHawks a 7-1 victory over the Buccaneers.
Notes:
  • Allie Cummins went 2-for-3 with a home run and a double
  • Juarez and Chloe Parks both went a perfect 2-for-2 from the plate.
  • Six different RedHawk batters recorded a hit.
How it Happened (Game Two):
  • Taylor Turner got the start for Miami in the second game of the doubleheader, pitching a complete game. Turner struck out five ETSU batters and allowed just one run off three hits.
  • Cummins went 3-for-4 from the plate in the contest with two RBI.
  • The RedHawks got off to a similar start in this game, leading 3-0 after one inning of play behind home runs from Cummins (solo) and Kobayashi (two-run).
  • The Buccaneers were quick to respond with a run of their own in the bottom of the third, cutting Miami's lead to just two runs.
  • Lily Wilmot provided an immediate answer for Miami with a two-run home run in the top of the third, her second home run of the season.
  • A Juarez RBI single and home runs from Chloe Parks and Cummins through the last two innings of play added to the RedHawk lead, ending the game in an 8-1victory.
Notes:
  • Kobayashi went 2-for-4 with a home run.
  • Parks went 3-for-4 with one RBI.
