Martin, Tenn. — The Miami University baseball dropped a 13-8 decision to Tennessee Martin on Sunday afternoon. The RedHawks are now 2-1 on the year, while UT Martin picks up their first win of the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Nick Neibauer led off the second inning with a single to left field. William Escala came up to hit and belted a homer to right-center putting the 'Hawks up 2-0.
- In the top of the fourth trailing 5-2, Escala and Brian Zapp both walked putting two runners on for Tyler Wardwell. Wardwell then sent a ball down the right-field line for a two-run double, cutting the deficit to one.
- Trailing 7-4 in the top of the sixth, Cristian Tejada reached base on a walk. JJ Woolwine followed the walk by hammering a ball out to right field for a two-run homer, cutting the deficit to one again.
- In the top of the eighth Brian Zapp reached base on a one-out single. Zach MacDonald then came in to pinch-hit and reached base on a hit by pitch. Zapp then scored in the inning on a throwing error, cutting the UT Martin lead to 13-7.
Miami Games Notes:
- Woolwine went 3-for-5 with a two-run home run, a double, and a steal.
- Wardwell went 2-for-2 with two doubles, two RBI, and two runs scored.
- Escala reached base twice, with a two-run homer and two runs scored.
What's Next:
The RedHawks host their first home game of the season on Tuesday, February 22 when Indiana University comes to town. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m.
