OXFORD, Ohio — Head Coach
Danny Hayden picked up his 200th career win as the RedHawks split a doubleheader with Rider on Saturday afternoon at McKie Field. In game one, the RedHawks used the combination of dominant pitching by
Jonathan Brand and contributions up and down the lineup in a 9-0 win. In game two, Rider posted an 8-2 win.
HOW IT HAPPENED: Game One
- In the bottom of the third, JJ Woolwine led off with a double to right field. In the next at-bat, he advanced to third on a groundout. Cole Andrews then doubled down the left-field line, giving the RedHawks a 1-0 lead.
- In the bottom of the fourth inning, with the bases loaded following a Cristian Tejada hit and a Blake Buzzeo walk, Woolwine drove in two runs with a double. Benji Brokemond then singled to center, bringing home Buzzeo. Following a sacrifice fly that scored Woolwine, Dalton Back and Nick Neibauer each had RBI singles, bringing the RedHawk lead to 7-0.
- With one out in the bottom of the sixth, Andrews doubled to left. In the following at-bat, Back doubled to right, scoring Andrews; Back then advanced to third on the throw. Neibauer drove in Back with a sacrifice fly, putting the 'Hawks up 9-0.
Miami Game Notes: Game One
- Jonathan Brand threw six scoreless innings, striking out six batters while allowing just four runners.
- Woolwine went 2-for-4 with two doubles, two runs scored and two RBI.
- Andrews went 2-for-3 with two doubles, two RBI and a run scored.
- Brokemond went for 2-for-4 with a triple, a run scored and an RBI.
- Back went 2-for-3 with a double, two RBI and two runs scored.
- Neibauer reached base twice and had two RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED: Game Two
- Rider scored three runs in the first and five more in the fifth to claim an 8-0 advantage.
- In the bottom of the sixth, Andrews led off with a single. Neibauer and Zach MacDonald both walked to load the bases. William Escala then drew a hit-by-pitch to score Andrews and put Miami on the board.
- In the bottom of the ninth, Andrews tripled down the right-field line. Back then drove Andrews in on a groundout.
Miami Game Notes: Game Two
- Andrews went 3-for-5 with two triples and two runs scored.
- Buzzeo went 2-for-4.
- Neibauer reached base three times.
- Nick DeMonica threw 3.1 scoreless innings, striking out four.
