NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Miami University softball team dropped its opening game of the 2022 season against Bradley University Friday evening by a score of 8-7. After falling behind 2-0 through four innings, the RedHawks manufactured a seven-run rally in the top of the fifth to take a five-run lead over the Braves. However, Bradley rallied back and held on to claim a one-run victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Starting pitcher Courtney Vierstra started her season off with six strikeouts through 5.2 innings but allowed eight runs (one earned) during her time on the mound.
- Freshman Jenna Golembiewski kick-started Miami's rally in the fifth inning after reaching base on a Bradley error, allowing Allie Cummins to race home for the RedHawks' first score. Miami scored seven runs in the fifth to go up 7-2.
- Bradley rattled off two runs in the fifth and four more in the sixth, five of those runs being unearned.
- The RedHawks loaded the bases in the seventh inning but were unable to push home a run.
NOTES:
- Cummins finished 3-3 at the plate for the RedHawks with a pair of walks.
- Five different Miami players drove in runs, led by Adriana Barlow (two RBI on a fifth-inning double).
