NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Miami University softball team dropped its opening game of the 2022 season against Bradley University Friday evening by a score of 8-7. After falling behind 2-0 through four innings, the RedHawks manufactured a seven-run rally in the top of the fifth to take a five-run lead over the Braves. However, Bradley rallied back and held on to claim a one-run victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Starting pitcher Courtney Vierstra started her season off with six strikeouts through 5.2 innings but allowed eight runs (one earned) during her time on the mound.
Freshman Jenna Golembiewski kick-started Miami's rally in the fifth inning after reaching base on a Bradley error, allowing Allie Cummins to race home for the RedHawks' first score. Miami scored seven runs in the fifth to go up 7-2.
Bradley rattled off two runs in the fifth and four more in the sixth, five of those runs being unearned.
The RedHawks loaded the bases in the seventh inning but were unable to push home a run.

NOTES:

Cummins finished 3-3 at the plate for the RedHawks with a pair of walks.
Five different Miami players drove in runs, led by Adriana Barlow (two RBI on a fifth-inning double).
