MEMPHIS, Tenn.— The Miami University women's basketball team dropped a 76-51 decision at Memphis Wednesday night.
Maddi Cluse posted her second consecutive double-double for the RedHawks (1-2), putting up a game-high 20 points and pulling down 10 rebounds.
Sierra Morrow added 14 points. Madison Griggs led the Tigers (2-1) with 18 points.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Cluse got off to a quick start, making her first four field goals to stake the RedHawks to a 9-6 lead midway through the opening period. Memphis responded with an 11-2 run to claim a 17-11 advantage after 10 minutes.
- The Tigers took their first double-digit lead at 23-13, but Miami closed within 28-22 after a three-point play from Morrow. Memphis tallied the next five points and took a 33-24 lead into the locker room.
- Cluse added eight points in the third quarter, including a layup that cut the margin to 36-28, but the home team went on a 10-2 run to push the lead into double digits for good.
- A Clare Chambers three-pointer trimmed the deficit to 54-43 with 7:46 to play, but that was as close as the RedHawks would get down the stretch. Memphis scored a dozen straight points late to take its largest lead in the final minute of the game.
NOTES
- Ivy Wolf dished out a career-high seven assists for Miami.
- Riley Neal scored the first two points of her collegiate career.
- Morrow led the Red and White with two blocked shots.
- Taylor Boruff made her season debut for the RedHawks.
