Miami Picks Up 3-1 Win at No. 15 UMass Lowell

LOWELL, Mass.— The Miami University hockey team remained undefeated with a 3-1 victory at No. 15/15 UMass Lowell Friday night. Artur Turansky and Max Dukovac each scored their first career goals for the RedHawks (2-0-1), while Joe Cassetti added his third goal in as many games.

Ludvig Persson made 38 saves in the Miami net to hand the River Hawks (1-1-0) their first defeat of the season. Cassetti led the RedHawks' offense with a career-high three points on the night.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • 10:27 2nd (Miami 1-0) | Miami opened the scoring with a power play goal midway through the second period. Dukovac won a race to the puck in the offensive zone and dropped it off for Cassetti. Dukovac took a return pass near the corner and found Turansky cutting hard to the back side of the net, threading the puck perfectly across between two UML defenders for Turansky to finish.
  • 15:13 2nd (Miami 2-0) | The RedHawks doubled their lead less than five minutes later. Matthew Barbolini handed the puck off behind him in the offensive zone to Nick Donato, who ripped it toward the goal from deep. Cassetti was in perfect position with the goaltender screened and was able to tip home a no-look goal despite facing the opposite direction.
  • 8:48 3rd (Miami 3-0) | A brilliant individual play from Dukovac made it 3-0 in favor of the visitors. After a diagonal pass from Robby Drazner to Cassetti, Dukovac picked up the puck before crossing the center line, pushed it ahead, and then cut it back between a pair of River Hawks. His quick backhand finish beat UMass Lowell's Henry Welsch and gave Miami a second power-play goal.
  • 19:20 3rd (UMass Lowell 3-1) | The River Hawks avoided a shutout with an extra attacker goal in the final minute. Blake Wells tipped the loose puck in over Persson off passes from Scout Truman and Jon McDonald.

NOTES:
  • Dukovac has produced a total of five points in his first three games with the Red and White.
  • The RedHawks were 2-4 with the man advantage and held UML scoreless in four power plays.
  • Persson was named the First Star of the Game, while Cassetti took Second Star honors.
  • Miami defeated a nationally-ranked team on the road for the first time since Nov. 5, 2021 at No. 9/7 Omaha.
