FARMVILLE, Va. – On Friday evening the Miami University field hockey team lost to Mid-American Conference opponent Longwood University 2-1 in a shootout. The loss drops the RedHawks to 7-5 on the season and 3-1 in MAC competition. The win brings the Lancers to 3-8 on the season and 1-3 in MAC competition.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Under two minutes into the first quarter, the Lancers scored and took a 1-0 lead.
- With 21 seconds left in the quarter, Luli Rosso scored her first goal of the season, tying the game 1-1, which remained through the end of the first quarter. She was assisted by Claudia Negrete Garcia
- The score remained tied through the end of the second and third quarters, 1-1.
- With just over seven minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, goalkeeper Isabelle Perese had a save, her fifth of the game, keeping the game tied.
- Regulation time ended with a 1-1 tie, taking the RedHawks into overtime.
- The first and second overtime periods ended without a change, sending the RedHawks into a shootout.
- In the RedHawks' first, second, and third stroke-off attempts, they missed.
- In the Lancers' first and second stroke-off attempts, they scored.
- In the RedHawks' fourth and fifth attempt, Kennedy Vinson and Negrete Garcia scored.
- In the Lancers' third, fourth, and fifth attempt, they missed.
- The RedHawks' missed their final attempt.
- In the Lancers final attempt, they scored, capturing a 2-1 victory.
