RedHawks Fall to #6 Virginia

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – On Sunday afternoon the Miami University field hockey team fell to No. 6 University of Virginia 2-1. The loss brings the RedHawks to 7-6 on the season and the Cavaliers improve to 9-3.

The RedHawks return home Friday, Oct. 14 at 2 p.m. to face Mid-American Conference opponent Kent State University in Oxford, Ohio.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- With less than five minutes left in the first quarter, the Cavaliers scored, gaining a 1-0 lead.
- The second quarter ended without a change in the 1-0 score.
- By the end of the first half, goalkeeper Isabelle Perese had five saves.
- Just over 10 minutes into the third quarter, the Cavaliers scored, increasing their lead to 2-0, which remained through the end of the quarter.
- Just under eight minutes into the final quarter, Katherine Groff scored, bringing the score to 2-1. She was assisted by Reese Wearren.
- Despite the late goal in the fourth quarter, the RedHawks could not bounce back and lost 2-1.
- Perese finished the game with seven saves.
