OXFORD, Ohio – On Sunday afternoon the Miami University field hockey team fell to defending NCAA national champions No. 3 Northwestern University, 3-1. The loss drops the RedHawks to 11-7 on the season. The win takes the Wildcats to 15-3 on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- After a strong defensive first quarter from the RedHawks, where they successfully defended five penalty corners, the score remained tied 0-0.
- With under five minutes remaining in the second quarter the Wildcats scored during a penalty corner, taking the 1-0 lead, which they held through the end of the first half.
- Just over four minutes into the third quarter the Wildcats scored again, increasing their lead to 2-0.
- During a penalty corner seconds later, Luli Rosso scored, cutting the RedHawks' deficit in half, 2-1. She was assisted by Madison Workman.
- The 2-1 score remained through the end of the third quarter.
- Under a minute into the fourth quarter, during a penalty corner, the Wildcats scored, taking their lead to 3-1.
- The Wildcats held their lead through the end of the quarter, and the competition concluded with a 3-1 final score.
