OXFORD, Ohio – On Friday morning the Miami University field hockey team defeated Ball State University 2-0 in the first semi-final game of the Mid-American Conference Championship Tournament. The win advances the RedHawks to the MAC Championship game on Saturday.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- After a competitive first quarter, the score remained unchanged, 0-0.
- During a penalty corner with 1:30 remaining in the second quarter, Paula Peña Martinez scored, giving the RedHawks a 1-0 lead, which they held through the end of the first half. She was assisted by Claudia Negrete Garcia.
- With 1:40 left in the third quarter, Katherine Groff scored, increasing the RedHawks' lead to 2-0. She was assisted by Negrete Garcia. The RedHawks held this lead through the end of the quarter.
- Through the fourth quarter the score remained unchanged and the RedHawks won the competition 2-0.
- This is the second consecutive game where the RedHawks allowed no corners for the Cardinals.
