RedHawks Clinch MAC Regular Season 'Ship with 7-0 Win Over BSU

MUNCIE, Ind. – On Friday afternoon the Miami University field hockey team defeated Ball State University 7-0. The win brings the RedHawks to 11-6 on the season and 6-1 in Mid-American Conference competition and clinches the MAC Regular Season Championship for the RedHawks. The loss drops the Cardinals to 4-3 in MAC competition and 7-10 on the season.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • With just over a minute remaining in the first quarter, Jenna Kirby scored her first goal of the season, grabbing a 1-0 lead for the RedHawks. They held their lead through the end of the quarter.
  • The second quarter finished without a change in score, and the RedHawks led 1-0 through the end of the first half
  • During a penalty corner under five minutes into the third quarter, Claudia Negrete Garcia scored, taking the RedHawks lead to 2-0. She was assisted by Carlie Servis.
  • With under five minutes remaining in the third quarter, during a penalty corner, Negrete Garcia scored again, increasing the RedHawks' lead to 3-0.
  • The RedHawks held the 3-0 lead through the end of the quarter.
  • Just under three minutes into the final quarter, Paula Peña Martinez scored during a penalty corner, granting the RedHawks a 4-0 lead. She was assisted by Luli Rosso and Negrete Garcia.
  • The RedHawks did not wait long to score again, just over two minutes later, Kirby scored, bringing the score to 5-0.
  • With just over seven minutes remaining in the competition, Becca Kline scored, increasing the RedHawks lead to 6-0.
  • Kline scored again, two minutes later, on a deflection off the pass from Rosso, taking the lead to 7-0.
  • The RedHawks secured the win and the regular season championship with the 7-0 shutout.

The RedHawks take the field against the defending NCAA champion No. 3 Northwestern University on Sunday, Oct. 30 at 12 p.m. in Oxford, Ohio.
