MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich.— On Sunday afternoon Miami lost a three-set match to Central Michigan University, 10-25, 8-25, 21-25.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
A pair of kills from
Allyson Severance and
Ellie Hanson gave the RedHawks a 2-0 lead to start. Two kills from
Abby Stratford helped the RedHawks maintain the lead until the Chippewas tied the game at 8-8. Central Michigan went on to take the set 25-10.
Central Michigan led 4-1 at the start of the second set. A kill from Hanson closed the lead within two, but the Chippewas went on to find their rhythm. Central Michigan took the the set with a 25-8 win.
The Chippewas managed to take a 7-3 lead at the beginning of the third set. The Redhawks stayed resilient, outscoring Central Michigan 8-4 to tie the match at 11-11. Kills from
Caroline Cermack,
Maggie McCrary, Severance, and Hanson led to the momentum shift. Central Michigan was able to retake the lead right after. Although, Miami would once again tie the game at 16-16 and take their first lead at 17-16. Despite the hard-fought effort, the Chippewas closed the set with a 25-21 win.
NOTES:
- Hanson had the team-high of 11 kills.

Miami hosts two conference opponents next weekend. The first match is against the University of Toledo at 6 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 28. The RedHawks follow this with a match against Ball State University on Saturday, Oct. 29 at 5 p.m.
