MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich.— On Saturday night Miami lost a three-set match to Central Michigan University, 19-25, 21-25, 15-25.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
After a 2-2 start, Central Michigan went on a 5-0 run to pull ahead 7-2. Kills from
Allyson Severance and
Abby Stratford kept the RedHawks within five as the set approached the halfway mark. Later in the set, a 6-2 run by Miami would close the lead to 20-17. A handful of kills from the RedHawk offense and a service ace from
Gentry Warrick sparked the turnaround. The Chippewas went on to win the set 25-19.
In a back-and-forth second set, the score was tied on 11 different occasions. Central Michigan led 4-2 early; Severance responded with back-to-back kills and a block to retake the lead. Not long after, Central Michigan tied the match at 9-9. A service error and
Maggie McCrary kill gave the RedHawks an 11-9 advantage. After the score reached 14-14, the Chippewas were able to get back on top. A kill from
Brooke Jackson and Severance brought the score back within one at 17-16. Although, this effort was not enough as Central Michigan closed out the set 25-21.
A kill from
Ellie Hanson gave the RedHawks the opening point of the third set. The score eventually reached 4-3, in favor of Central Michigan. The Chippewas went on to outscore the RedHawks 8-2. This gave Central Michigan a 12-5 lead heading towards the middle of the set. CMU took advantage of the momentum they gained, finishing the set with a 25-15 win.

- Severance had the game-high of 16.5 points and 15 kills.
