Miami Drops Series Finale at No. 6 SCSU

ST. CLOUD, Minn. — The Miami hockey team ended its road trip Saturday night, falling 8-0 at No. 6/5 St. Cloud State. David Hrenak went the distance in net to post a shutout win for the Huskies (14-6-0, 6-4-0 NCHC), while Ludvig Persson made 36 saves for the RedHawks (4-18-2, 1-12-1 NCHC).

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • 7:20 1st (SCSU 1-0) | St. Cloud State's power play unit, which came into the game scoring on 37% of its opportunities this year, converted shortly after a first-period faceoff. Sam Hentges set up Nick Perbix, who fed across to Veeti Miettinen for the goal.
  • 9:54 1st (SCSU 2-0) | Miettinen scored his second goal less than three minutes later, taking the puck at his own blue line after a pass from Zach Okabe and bringing it into the attacking zone for a long-range shot.
  • 16:46 1st (SCSU 3-0) | After Monte Graham's shot was saved, the Huskies quickly raced the other way, which yielded a 3-on-1 chance in front of Persson. Micah Miller found Kyler Kupka, who touched the puck over to Kevin Fitzgerald for the finish.
  • 4:49 2nd (SCSU 4-0) | A St. Cloud State breakaway chance led to a penalty shot for the Huskies' Easton Brodzinski. Brodzinski capitalized with a goal to make it 4-0.
  • 13:35 2nd (SCSU 5-0) | SCSU got a shorthanded goal on a 2-on-1 breakaway, as Josh Luedtke and Chase Brand combined for a give-and-go, with Luedtke getting the return pass and scoring past Persson.
  • 15:50 2nd (SCSU 6-0) | St. Cloud State struck again on the power play later in the period, as Hentges was able to weave inside and score off assists from Perbix and Brodzinski.
  • 3:21 3rd (SCSU 7-0) | Miller extended the Huskies' lead early in the third period, taking a pass from Jack Peart on the back post and firing it into the Miami net.
  • 8:28 3rd (SCSU 8-0) | Fitzgerald tallied his second goal of the night midway through the final period, taking control of the puck near the blue line off assists from Peart and Kupka and knocking it home to finish the scoring.
