Miami Falls at No. 6 St. Cloud State

ST. CLOUD, Minn. — The Miami hockey team continued its four-game Minnesota road trip Friday night, dropping an 11-1 decision at No. 6/5 St. Cloud State. The Huskies (13-6-0, 5-4-0 NCHC) scored four times in the first period to go on top, and added to their lead in the second period with a pair of shorthanded goals.

Monte Graham scored his third goal of the year for Miami (4-17-2, 1-11-1). Ludvig Persson made 31 saves in net for the RedHawks.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • 1:52 1st (SCSU 1-0) | Zach Okabe started the scoring less than two minutes into the game. After a pile-up of bodies in front of the Miami net, Okabe was able to retrieve the loose puck and knock it home. Veeti Miettinen and Brendan Bushy had assists for the Huskies.
  • 5:12 1st (SCSU 2-0) | St. Cloud State doubled its advantage with a goal eight seconds into the game's first power play. Off the faceoff, a quick passing sequence from Nolan Walker to Nick Perbix set up Sam Hentges for a one-timer to give SCSU a 2-0 lead.
  • 10:45 1st (Miami 2-1) | The RedHawks got on the board on a quick-developing 3-on-1, as Jack Olmstead pushed into the attacking zone and found John Sladic on the right wing. Sladic's shot was retrieved by Graham in front, and Graham was able to bat the puck out of midair into the SCSU net.
  • 12:20 1st (SCSU 3-1) | Okabe gave the Huskies the momentum back less than two minutes later. Jami Kranilla made a nice move near the blue line to feed Perbix, who slid the puck across the crease to find Okabe at the back post for a tap-in that made it 3-1.
  • 14:50 1st (SCSU 4-1) | Perbix made it 4-1 by working free from the boards directly behind the Miami net, kicking the puck to himself and skating around in front to poke a shot past Persson. Kranilla and Seamus Donohue were credited with assists on the play.
  • 1:19 2nd (SCSU 5-1) | St. Cloud State tallied early in the second period on a give and go with Walker and Easton Brodzinski. After Spencer Meier started the play, Walker fed Brodzinski on the left wing and was just able to reach the return pass to slide it in.
  • 3:54 2nd (SCSU 6-1) | Walker and Brodzinski teamed up for another goal just a few minutes later, as Walker cut from the left side of the ice to the right and laid the puck off for Brodzinski, who was trailing the play and finished.
  • 4:13 2nd (SCSU 7-1) | 19 seconds later, SCSU struck once more, as Krannila sent the puck from the right corner all the way across the width of the rink and then skated in for a return pass and one-timer.
  • 6:58 2nd (SCSU 8-1) | St. Cloud State turned a 5-on-3 Miami power play into a 2-on-1 breakaway, with Kyler Kupka capitalizing off the Perbix assist.
  • 14:13 2nd (SCSU 9-1) | The Huskies got their second shorthanded goal of the period as Micah Miller picked up the puck deep in his own zone off passes from Donohue and Perbix and took it the length of the ice just before the Miami power play ended.
  • 14:54 3rd (SCSU 10-1) | SCSU's special teams converted again in the third period, as a series of passes from Jack Peart to Kupka in close led to a Kevin Fitzgerald tally on the power play.
  • 16:39 3rd (SCSU 11-1) | St. Cloud's Joe Molenaar finished the scoring, skating from behind the Miami net and spinning free to fire a shot off assists from Mason Salquist and Perbix. Perbix ended the night with five assists.

GAME NOTES:
  • St. Cloud State finished 2-2 on the power play, while Miami was 0-5.
  • The RedHawks won 32 faceoffs compared to 31 for SCSU.
  • Robby Drazner blocked a game-high four shots.
